Creating Footnotes

There are special elements for creating footnotes in Paligo, as well as reusing the same footnote several times:

  1. Insert a footnote anywhere in your text, using the element footnote.

    Even if you place the footnote right after the text, the element will appear beneath it to provide ample space for the footnote content.

  2. If you want to refer to the same footnote several times you do that by adding an xml:id to the original footnote. It can be anything, but make sure it's unique.

  3. Then add a footnoteref to refer to that xml:id, with a linkend attribute.

  4. The footnote references will be marked up in the body text, but if referring to the same footnote, only one footnote text appears at the bottom:
